Some people live for the weekends, but the most exciting days for me are the 16th of every month. That’s when our new rosters come out and I find out what destinations I’ll be scheduled for the next month. The highlight of opening up my roster email is seeing if I have a new country to visit. So imagine to my delight, when I saw that this month would take me to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia for the first time.
I knew exactly where this journey would lead me…I would be heading to the edge of infinity on the fifty-first floor of the FACE Platinum Suites. The infinity pool there has an unbelievable view of the famous Petronas Towers and the sunrise and sunsets from the pool deck are beyond anything I’ve ever seen.
The suite on the forty-seventh floor was impeccable, the two bedrooms were well appointed. The master bedroom windows looked out over the sparkling lights of KL with the beautiful Towers framed like a masterpiece.
We were delighted to have a spacious living area and and our own kitchenette. But the jewel in the crown lay four floors above us. We dropped off our bags and rushed up to catch a quick glimpse of the setting sun which was breathtaking.
We decided to take a short walk to gaze upwards at one of the most beautiful sights in KL. Craining our necks upward to the heavens, we were speechless at the splendor of the Towers. Once named the tallest buildings in the world, a title that the Burj Khalifa now holds, they are truly a wonder of the Modern World. I was fascinated at how kind the tourists were at the base of the Towers. Everyone stood patiently in line and waited their turn to have a great unobstructed photo with the two Grand Dames.
We stopped by a local street vendor for a bowl of hot, steaming bibimbap for dinner. The base of the bowl was rice filled with differently vegetables including carrots, spinach, seaweed, egg, beansprouts, and radishes!
It settled perfectly on our stomachs and we hurried back to the suite for an early turn in so that we could catch the sunrise from the pool.
The breaking day did not disappoint. The Sun God rode across the Malaysian sky in all his glory. We waited quietly until 7:00 am when we were allowed to enter the pool.
Swimming out to the farthermost edge of the water, I looked over the city bathed in morning light and instantly felt the peace of the new day wash over me.
All in all, this turned out to be one of the most amazing cities I’ve visited. You’ll find such a mix of cultures here and no shortage of entertainment venues. But if it’s a view from a heavenly loft your seeking, plan your stay at the edge of infinity. You’ll find yourself renewed with the quiet beauty that is truly Malaysia.
