สวัสดี and welcome back to one of my most favorite countries in the world! In honour of my tenth visit to Bangkok I decided to finally attend the Silom Thai Cooking class! I’ve only been meaning to do this for the last three years 😉
My favorite thing about Thailand is the vibrant and rich colour present in everyday. From the clothing to the plants that dot the streets everything is a pleasant assault of the senses! Everything simply bursts with colour, culture, and flavour!
We started in the morning as the markets in Bangkok are open quite early. We met our cooking instructor and popped in one of the most beloved and iconic modes of transportation: the Tuk Tuk!
Just a short drive away we were let out at a local market and proceeded to buy all the fresh ingredients we would need in order to cook the dishes for the class!
Walking through the market was an eye opening experience. It’s definitely an interesting place and quite hectic. Small mopeds are driving through even smaller alleyways. The hustle and bustle of people coming and going with large shopping baskets seemed quite the culture shock!
After the market we started the trek to cooking class, baskets in tow and spirits high, and bellies hungry!
Once we reached the school (and the ac) we unpacked our shopping baskets and admired the color and freshness of our hard work.
The first dish of the day was my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE dish in the world: Pad Thai Sai Kai!
The outcome was spicy and just perfect! On the menu next was por pia told or deep fried spring rolls and papaya salad!
Our final dish before dessert was something that I wasn’t so keen on but Thailand has a way of making me even more adventurous than usual. I’m not a fan of curries but the smell coming from my wok of the Mussaman curry was too tempting to pass up!
All in all I would recommend the Silom Thai Cooking Class! The instructor told us the key to looking young is to ‘laugh often, love more, and eat a lot!’ It was a wonderful to spend the day and to learn how to cook Thai food is an experience to never forget!
